Former Defense Officer-in-Charge Carlito Galvez Jr. is set to return as presidential adviser on peace, reconciliation and unity, an announcement on the latest appointees in the Marcos Jr. administration from the Presidential Communications Office shows.

Galvez held the same post under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong”  Marcos Jr. appoints Eli Remolona as new Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor.

Remolona will succeed current BSP Governor Felipe Medalla, whose term will end on July 2.

A statement from the Presidential Communications Office says Marcos made the decision “after extensive consultations with the Department of Finance, various government offices, private banks and financial institutions.”

“Prior to his appointment as Governor of the BSP, Remolona served as a Member of the Monetary Board of the BSP since August 2022,” the PCO adds.

“As the newly appointed governor, Mr. Remolona is expected to leverage his extensive knowledge and experience to guide the BSP in promoting financial stability, implementing effective monetary policies, and fostering a robust banking sector,” it also says.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed former Rep. Mohammaed Hussein Pangandaman (Lanao del Sur) as administrator of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan, under Government-Owned or –Controlled Corporations, the Presidential Communications Office say.

It adds that Pangandaman’s date of appointement is dated April 28, 2023.

Police Maj. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., chief of the Directorate for Intelligence, will be leading the Philippine National Police as Police Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. retires from the service.

Acorda was named incoming national police chief on the program for the change-of-command ceremony at the national police hedquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.

According to a copy of his appointment papers tweeted by Inquirer.net, Acorda's appointment is effective Monday, April 24.

The Palace says President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Abdulraof A. Macacua and Bai Mariam S. Mangudadatu as officers-in-charge of the newly created provinces of Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, respectively.

Bai Fatima Ainee Limbona Sinsuat meanwhile has been picked as OIC of the Office of the Vice-Governor of Maguindanao del Norte, while Datu Nathaniel Sangacala Midtimbang will serve as OIC of the Office of the Vice Governor of Manguindanao del Sur.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Major General Charlton Sean Gaerlan as the deputy chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Presidential Communications Office announces.

Gaerlan’s appointment is dated March 21, the Palace adds.

Gaerlan served as commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps and chief of the AFP Education, Training and Doctrine Command. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989, it also says.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed former Court of Appeals Associate Justice Monina Arevalo-Zenarosa as new commissioner of the Commissioner of Human Rights.

“With her extensive experience in the field of law and protecting human rights, CHR Commissioner Zenarosa will be a responsible one in ensuring the rights of all Filipinos, particularly of those of the marginalized,” Presidential Communications Office says in Filipino.

The PCO also posted a photo of Zenarosa taking her oath before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Former Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya has been appointed as new assistant director general of the National Security Council.

State-run PTV4 reports that National Security Adviser Eduardo Año said they received Malaya’s appointment from the Malacañang on Tuesday.

Año was DILG chief during Malaya’s stint at the same agency.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. rejects calls for Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla to resign from his position following the arrest of his son in a drug operation earlier this week, saying the demands have “no basis.”

“I think the calls for him to resign has no basis. You call for somebody to resign if he’s not doing his job or that they have misbehaved in that job,” Marcos tells reporters at the sidelines of an event with the Department of Science and Technology in Pasay City.

Lawyer Vic Rodriguez says his resignation from the Marcos administration is a “very personal decision that was happily made,” adds that he wants to spend his time with family.

He maintains that his continued silence on matters related to his previous post as executive secretary is due to the fact that his communications with the president are absolutely privileged.

Rodriguez quit his post as executive secretary in mid-September and says he would stay on as presidential chief of staff, but his predecessor Lucas Bersamin said Tuesday that the former is no longer part of the Marcos administration.

Opposition lawmaker Edcel Lagman says the president “must be discerning and cautious” in the exercise of power to appoint cabinet members.

This was after Malacañang was hit by three resignations before the Marcos administration even marked its 100th day in office.

“When Cabinet secretaries so early in their tenure vacate their posts, either voluntarily or forcibly, then the vetting process on their appointments is grossly wanting,” Lagman says.

He adds: “The qualification, character, and integrity of presidential appointees reflect on the wisdom or caprice of the appointing authority.”

Yulo-Loyzaga was chairperson of the International Advisory Board of the Manila Observatory where she advocated for more scientific research on climate and disaster resilience, and sat as the Manila Observatory’s executive director and technical adviser of the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation.
